Publication Ethics (General)
The Indonesian Journal of Islamization Studies (INJAS) is committed to upholding high ethical standards across all stages of the academic publishing process to ensure the quality of scholarly works and foster public trust in research outcomes. This ethics policy strictly refers to the Code of Conduct and Best-Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing jointly published by COPE, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).
Editors are responsible for ensuring that the double-blind peer-review process is fair, objective, and timely, while providing authors with clear information regarding each stage of manuscript evaluation. Editorial decisions to accept, revise, or reject a manuscript are based strictly on its scholarly quality, originality, relevance, and scientific contribution to the field, without being influenced by the author's race, gender, institutional affiliation, or political and religious beliefs. Editors must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all submitted manuscripts, sharing details only with assigned reviewers and editorial board members. Furthermore, editors are strictly prohibited from using unpublished material or ideas from submissions for their personal research, academic advantage, or financial gain.
Reviewers must conduct evaluations professionally, constructively, and impartially, supporting their critical feedback with sound academic arguments while refraining from personal attacks. Review reports must be written by the assigned reviewer personally unless explicit permission is granted by the editor to involve a colleague, and reviewers must never coerce authors into citing their own publications without clear academic justification. Reviewers with any personal, financial, or professional conflicts of interest—such as shared institutional affiliations or recent research collaborations with the authors—must promptly decline the review assignment. Reviewed manuscripts must be treated as privileged confidential documents, and reviewers must report any suspected ethical violations, such as plagiarism or data manipulation, directly to the editor without conducting independent investigations.
Authorship must be limited exclusively to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the research design, execution, data analysis, or manuscript drafting, with all co-authors listed accordingly. The corresponding author is responsible for obtaining approval from all co-authors prior to manuscript submission, revisions, and final publication, while non-author contributors should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section. Authors must submit original research articles, reviews, or scholarly works in English, Arabic, or Bahasa Indonesia that have not been published previously and are not under consideration elsewhere. Any prior presentation of the work, such as in conference proceedings or academic theses, must be explicitly declared upon initial submission.
INJAS enforces zero tolerance for academic misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, image manipulation, and selective data reporting. Submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software prior to peer review, and unoriginal submissions will be rejected immediately. Authors are responsible for presenting their empirical data accurately and transparently, adhering to proper citation practices by attributing all direct and indirect sources in Chicago Style (Full Note/Footnote). Furthermore, authors are strongly encouraged to make their underlying research data, materials, and analytical methods publicly accessible through secure data repositories or supplementary files to promote research transparency and reproducibility.
Authors must explicitly disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could be perceived as influencing the results, analysis, or interpretation of their work, alongside a clear declaration of all funding sources supporting the study. Research involving human participants, sensitive data, or vulnerable populations must strictly comply with established ethical standards. INJAS aligns its research ethics oversight with the Guidelines for Research Ethics in the Social Sciences, Humanities, Law and Theology published by the Norwegian National Research Ethics Committees, requiring explicit statements regarding informed consent and ethics committee approvals.
Authors must promptly notify the journal editor if significant errors, inaccuracies, or methodological flaws are discovered in their published work to facilitate formal corrections or retractions. Formal retractions are reserved exclusively for severe violations—such as proven plagiarism, data fabrication, or duplicate publication—and official retraction notices detailing the cause and initiator will be linked directly to the online article version. Upon acceptance, articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license, allowing the public to freely access, share, and adapt the work with proper attribution. Authors retain full copyright of their work and are empowered to share and distribute their published research for both commercial and non-commercial purposes.
